Welcome to Camelot


The myth of Arthur helped create Britain as we know it. The legends of King Arthur and his knights have been a great contribution to European Culture. 

This webpage has been created to play some simple games related with the development of linguistic skills in English as a second language. 
All of them are based around the Arthurian legends...perhaps Merlin is more magical than Harry Potter...I hope you enjoy it!

    I love the theme of you blog, Casilda.
    It's interesting for kids because it's about a legendary character (and they love that kind of story). While they're discovering it, they're also practicing their English in a fun way.
    In addition, they will learn about British culture and history, allowing them to approach the English language and its culture. Thank you for sharing it!

SITES OF KING ARTHUR

  ARTHUR'S ENGLAND TRIP If you are interested in seeing the places that are linked with Arthurian legends, take a look at the interactive map Britain in the Age of Arthur.  Tray organising with your classmates an imaginary four-day tour of the main legendary places. Talk with them and plan your trip!  Check out the the followen places on the map: 1. Tintagel (Cornwall), where the king was supposedly born and perhaps where he received the sword  Excalibur. 2. The Round Table (Winchester Castle), an icon of equality which the king and his knights sat around. 3. Glastonbury , an important place related with a lot of legends and with Avalon where it is thought  King Arthur died. 4. Stonehenge , the iconic stone circle. Geoffrey of Monmouth, a popular author of Arthurian Legends, claimed that it was Merlin the Wizard who built this mysterious place. 5. Camelot (Caerleon), some medieval texts placed Camelot in Caerleon or some other places...

I am sure that you know a lot about the main characters of the Legends of King Arthur.   Would you like to test your kowledge? Go ahead! Camelot Kahoot  If you are interested in these legends you can read about them at https://www.LingQ.com.  The two following short texts,"The Sword in the Stone" and "Excalibur", are taken from this webpage. If you want to broaden your reading I suggest the 10 books from  Sweet Cherry Publishing . The Green Knight

        In ancient times, music accompanied warriors into battle  and made them feel brave.   Poems praised the achievements of a great chieftain or the adventures of   admired heroes.   On special occasions, poems and songs were performed by bards, the singers at that time. The following movie soundtrack is from King Arthur film (2004). The song describes a journey through the mountains. It is an ode to homeland which evokes nostalgic and hopful feelings. It is based in an old Nordic poem Song of the Exile .   Would you like to learn the lyrics of this song? You can fill in the gaps if you want... Next, I propose you a collaborative writing activity to go on with Arthurian legends. Your classmates could write in groups different endings to the following story: The Green Knight (Storyjumper)
